Zion Lutheran Cemetery
In 1877 the Lord lead a group of Lutheran Christians to form a congregation in the small settlement of Cream, Wisconsin. They would name the congregation Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and construct a church building and set aside part of the church property for a cemetery. In 1968 the congregation decided to buy the vacated public school, a short distance from the first church and cemetery, and move the church facilities to that location and tear down the first church. Zion became part of a dual parish with St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in 1971. Due in part to changing demographics of the area the membership and worship attendance declined and the congregation decided to close in 2012. The cemetery continues to be a resting place for the bodies of those whose souls the Lord has called to Himself in heaven. A marker has been placed in the cemetery, with the images of the two buildings that served as a gathering place for worship, in memory of the founding fathers, pastors and members of Zion Church.
The settlement of Cream is located along Highway 88 at the junction of County Road E. If you visit the cemetery be sure to take note of the fertile farmlands and beautiful tree covered hills of the valley that have reminded people of God’s blessings since the first settlers arrived.
